On sixth day of Navratri Maa Katyayani is worshipped. She is the sixth avatar of Maa Durga. On fifth day of Navratri Maa Skandamata is worshipped. According to Hindu scriptures, Mata Parvati is the daughter of sage Katya therefore this avatar of Maa Parvati is known by Maa Katyayani.
Maa Katyayani is the warrior goddess avatar of Maa Durga and she took the avatar of Katyayani to eliminate Mahishasura.
The pictorial representation of Maa depicts with four hands holding lotus flower and sword on left hands while right hands can be seen in Abhaya and Varada Mudras. Her carrier is a lion.
Maa Katyayani is worshipped by her devotees for a happy and stable married life. She ensures harmony and peace in married life. According to legends, Sita Mata, Gopis and Rukmini worshipped Maa Katyayani to get life partner of their own choice.
