Maa Kushmanda, the fourth Avatar of Maa Kushmanda is worshipped on the fourth day of Navratri. The 3rd day belongs to Maa Chadraghanta. The name Kushmanda is composed of 3 words. “Ku” means a little, “Usma” means energy and “Anda” means the cosmic egg. It is believed that she led the beginning of creation. Lord Vishnu was able to create the universe when Maa Kushmanda smiled like a flower. There was nothing before just eternal darkness all around. She created the world from nothing.
Maa Khushmanda has 8 arms and also known as Astabujha. Her 8 hands have kamandal, lotus, bow, arrow, urn, mace, chakra and japa mala. It is believed that she ends all the diseases and mournings of her devotees if worshipped truly. Maa Kushmanda is worshipped to increase in age, strength and health and removes darkness and establish harmony.
She has the powers to live inside the sun and her glow of her body is as luminous as sun. The carrier of Maa Kushmanda is a lion.
